RESUME PREPARATION

Who Needs a Resume?... Everyone.

A resume is a short summary of an individual's career or qualifications prepared by an applicant for a particular position. What you are actually doing is applying for an interview. The goal of an effective resume is to highlight and summarize key features of a person's experience and skills and attract the "eye" of a prospective employer.

Selecting the format of your resume is a marketing decision. There are two types of resumes: FUNCTIONAL and CHRONOLOGICAL.

The Functional format (style) is designed to highlight specific skills and qualifications an individual has developed as they apply to the position being sought.

The Chronological resume (style) is designed in reverse order; (last job first) and by dates, work experience, accomplishments and responsibilities. it uses your job titles, company names and dates of employment.

Do You Need and Objective on a Resume?  The answer is YES!

An applicant for a position should always use an objective to tell the hiring manager what you're seeking.

OBJECTIVE 1: To obtain a challenging position with a fast-paced company.

OBJECTIVE 2: To obtain a position as a Controller

Based on conversations with Human Resource Managers, the second objective is much more preferable and to the point. Most people use Objective 1.

Your resue should show three key things:

1. The amount and kind of responsibilty you had.

2. The results you achieved.

3. The relevancy of your past responsibilities and experiences.

List your achievements and how you solve problems.

Use action words to describe responsibilities and accomplishments.
